Showcased against the dramatic backdrop of the California Coast and the intensity of the Pacific Ocean, the Ocean Blue Adventure Race is staged near the communities of Half Moon Bay and El Granada in the Pillar Point Harbor area. Home of the infamous Mavericks surf break which boasts the toughest surf contest in the world, kayaking the Pacific in this area is exhilarating. But fear not, the giant waves of Mavericks only come out of hiding in the winter months. You’ll have the experience of paddling with Maverick’s little sisters- calmer, gentler, summer waves. Biking and running amongst manzanita and eucalyptus trees, sandy beaches and bluff tops with outstanding ocean views, this is truly the most beautiful adventure racing experience.
Last year’s winners were Mark Manning, Andy Tubbs and Mari Chandler of AR Navigation Supplies, finishing the race in 6hrs and 41 minutes.
Pack your flip flops and board shorts. Bring a beach blanket if you like. Half Moon Bay, a quaint California Beach community, offers a unique and challenging coastal adventure for all that is just 30 minutes south of San Francisco.
"Big Blue Half Moon Bay is an amazing venue for an adventure race. It is on my 'not to be missed' list. I've raced it every year since I started AR except for one year when I participated as a volunteer instead.
The open ocean paddle is challenging, the biking is exciting and fast, and the trek in the forest is stunning.
Besides, how many races start and end a half block from some of the best clam chowder on earth?"
